Radiation Safety

The Radiation Protection team at the Hevesy laboratory consists of two Radiation Safety Officers, one Radiation Safety Physicist and one Radiation Safety Expert. We ensure that all procedures involving the use of radioactive material occur in compliance with national (and international) legislation, for the safety of our employees, the public and the natural environment. We hold a permission license from the local Danish regulator (SIS) for the production and use of more than 70 different radionuclides, including several non-conventional radionuclides. We educate and support our staff in the safe handling of radioactive material for a diverse range of tasks that includes the production of radiopharmaceuticals for human use, the research and development of new radionuclides for cancer therapy and the diagnostics and analyses of waste material from nuclear power plants. Our expertise include cyclotron safety, the safe production and use of open and closed sources and the transport of radioactive materials both nationally and internationally. We provide a high-quality service for external companies and institutions in the form of consultancy on legislation and recommendations, safe laboratory work and safe transport of radioactive material.
